Why teams leave HireVue

Across 2025–2026 RFPs we've seen, the reasons cluster:

  1. Cheating concerns. Async-only video underdetects LLM-assisted candidates. HireVue added AI-content detection in 2023 but it's a single signal, not multimodal.
  2. Bolt-on cost. HireVue handles interviews. Coding adds HackerRank/CodeSignal ($15–40K). Matching adds Eightfold (six figures). Many buyers can't keep stacking.
  3. Implementation drag. Average deployment is 6–12 weeks per Gartner Peer Insights; buyers comparing newer platforms see 2–4 week paths.
  4. Async-first format doesn't fit senior or technical loops. Candidates dislike "talking to a wall" for senior roles, and follow-ups can't happen.
  5. Pricing inflation post-Modern Hire acquisition. Some customers report renewal increases above 25% in 2024–2025 (G2 reviews).

  • You're optimizing for cost over consistency.

It's a real answer for ~50-engineer teams.

MyInterview — the lighter async option

If your reason for leaving HireVue is "too expensive, too heavy" and you don't need depth, MyInterview is the obvious downgrade-with-purpose. $99–$999/mo, clean UX, async video with basic scoring. Will not satisfy a regulated buyer or a senior loop.

Paradox — when the problem isn't really interviewing

A surprising portion of "HireVue replacement" conversations end with the buyer realizing the real problem is reach, response time, and scheduling — not interview quality. If that's you, Paradox's chatbot + scheduling is excellent. The async video piece is light.

How to actually run the eval

In a real RFP, three things separate winners:

  1. Pilot the same 50 candidates through two platforms. Compare quality-of-hire at 90 days, recruiter time-saved per req, and candidate completion rate.
  2. Stress-test integrity with a planted cheater. Run an internal employee through the interview using ChatGPT/Claude on a second screen. Measure detection.
  3. Pull the 4/5ths-rule report. Ask each vendor to produce an adverse-impact dashboard for a real role. The depth of the answer tells you who's serious about compliance.
