If you're shortlisting AI video interview platforms in 2026, it's almost always these four. Vervoe and Spark Hire show up in some RFPs but at a different price/feature point; we've left them out for clarity.

What "conversational" actually means

This is where the 2024–2026 generational shift lives. Older platforms (HireVue, MyInterview) record the candidate answering a fixed list of questions. The AI scores the recording afterward. No follow-up, no dynamic depth.

A conversational AI interview behaves differently. When the candidate gives a thin answer about handling a difficult stakeholder, the AI asks the obvious follow-up — "what specifically did you change in your approach the second time?" — and waits for the response. This is closer to what a senior interviewer does, and candidates report it as such on completion-rate surveys.

HireVue made an explicit, public commitment in 2021 to stop using facial-expression analysis after the Electronic Privacy Information Center FTC complaint — a responsible move, but it limits some signal types competitors still use. VIVA's stack is multimodal but does not use facial-expression-to-personality-trait inference, which the EU AI Act now classifies as high-risk.

Where each one is right

HireVue — high-volume hourly and early-career programs at large enterprises. Mature ATS integrations. Strong scheduling (Modern Hire). Choose if async-first and volume are the requirement.

MyInterview — sub-50-hires/year businesses that want a clean async video tool without enterprise procurement. Honest, focused product. Outgrown quickly by mid-market.

Paradox — the answer when the question is "we can't reach candidates fast enough." Conversational chatbot scheduling is the flagship, not the AI interview. The interview piece is light.
